Linear Hinge & Roller Replacement: The Las Vegas Owner’s Guide

We stock and install Linear-compatible hinge and roller replacement parts across Las Vegas, with most single-gate swaps running $185 – $420 installed depending on hinge size, roller bearing type, and how far the gate has sagged. Most replacements are done same day because the heavy-wear versions live on our trucks, not in a warehouse across town. You’ll usually notice the problem before you name it: the gate starts dragging on the close, the top corner leans out of plumb, or you hear a low grinding sound every time the opener cycles. That’s almost always a roller that’s stopped rolling or a hinge bushing that’s worn oval.

A quick note before we go further: this page is about Linear-compatible hardware, but Portcullis Gate Repair Las Vegas is an independent service company. We’re not affiliated with Linear, and we carry parts for a few other brands too, including LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, and Ghost Controls. What that means for you is we match the part to your gate, not the other way around.

How Much Does Linear Hinge & Roller Replacement Cost in Las Vegas?

Most Linear-equipped swing gates in Las Vegas use either a weld-in barrel hinge or a bolt-on plate hinge, and the roller rides a steel or aluminum track. Replacing both hinges and the roller on a standard residential single gate typically lands between $185 and $420, parts and labor included. Heavy commercial gates or custom ornamental work run higher because the hinges are larger, the steel is thicker, and the gate often needs a lift or shoring while the old hardware comes off.

Here’s what that range looks like line by line:

  • Standard bolt-on hinge pair (Linear-compatible, galvanized): $45 – $90 per pair
  • Weld-in barrel hinge pair with grease fittings: $70 – $140 per pair
  • Roller assembly (steel wheel with sealed bearing): $35 – $85
  • Labor for hinge and roller swap on a standard single gate: $110 – $280, depending on gate weight and alignment work
  • Full alignment + track reset after replacement: typically included; if the track itself is twisted or cracked, we quote the track repair as a separate line item before we start

You get the written price before any work begins. That’s not a courtesy; it’s the Kingswell Guarantee, and it’s stamped on every invoice we write. The price we quote is the price you pay, and if the repair fails inside 365 days, we come back and fix it at no charge under the 365-Day Done Right Promise. No fine print on that.

Which Linear Models This Applies To

Linear’s residential swing gate openers, including the popular LRA series and the heavier LD033 and LD050 models, all hang their gates on the same basic hardware family: a pair of hinges carrying the load and at least one roller supporting the free edge. The hinge mounting pattern on most Linear-compatible residential gates is a four-bolt square pattern on 3-1/2 inch centers, though we see plenty of older Las Vegas gates with 3-inch centers that were drilled custom in the 1990s and 2000s. If you’re not sure what you have, take a photo of the hinge plate with a tape measure held against it, and we’ll ID the pattern before we ever roll a truck.

On the OEM vs. aftermarket question: Linear doesn’t manufacture hinges or rollers themselves. They source them from the same industrial hardware suppliers we buy from, which means a quality aftermarket hinge is often the identical forge with different ink on the box. Where we do insist on OEM or better is the roller bearing itself. A sealed bearing roller will outlast a shielded bearing by three to five years in Las Vegas dust, and most budget aftermarket rollers use shielded bearings that fill with grit after two summers. We stock sealed-bearing rollers on the truck for this exact reason.

Signs Your Linear Hinge & Roller Replacement Is Failing

  • The gate drags or scrapes on the close cycle. A roller that’s seized or flat-spotted turns what should be a roll into a skid. The bottom edge catches the concrete, and you’ll see fresh scrape marks on the drive whenever the gate has been cycled recently.
  • The top corner of the gate leans toward the latch side. Hinge bushings wear into an oval shape, which lets the gate settle. The opener keeps working fine because it’s pushing against less resistance, but the geometry is off and the fix gets more expensive the longer it goes.
  • A low grinding or squealing noise during travel. That’s the bearing telling you it’s running dry and hot. By the time you hear it, the bearing is usually already scored, and grease alone won’t bring it back.
  • Visible play when you push the gate by hand. With the opener disengaged, grab the gate near the free end and push it sideways. More than a quarter inch of movement means either the hinge pins are worn or the roller has lateral slop, and both are replacement jobs, not adjustment jobs.
  • The gate hesitates or jerks near the end of travel. A worn roller can bind momentarily in the track’s weather-worn spots. Las Vegas heat accelerates this because the track expands and contracts more than the manufacturer’s original clearance allows, and the roller eats the difference.

What Fails First and Why Las Vegas Is Hard on This Part

In this city, the roller bearing fails before the hinge in most cases. Las Vegas sits in a basin that collects fine alkaline dust, and that dust works its way into unsealed bearings within eighteen months. Once the bearing starts to drag, the roller stops turning and becomes a skid pad, and then it grinds a flat spot onto the wheel. We replace flat-spotted rollers on gates in Summerlin, Henderson, and the northwest valley all year, but the calls spike in July and August when the track metal is at its hottest and the gate is expanding against a roller that can’t roll anymore.

The hinges fail slower, but they fail for a different reason: wind. Las Vegas gets steady afternoon winds in the spring, and a gate that catches wind becomes a lever. All that load concentrates on the top hinge pin, so the top pin wears first, and the hinge plates themselves start to work against the gate posts. A gate with worn top hinge bushings will always sag toward the latch side first, and that’s the tell that separates a hinge problem from a roller problem.

One thing we check on every Las Vegas replacement: the gate post itself. Older steel posts in this valley rust from the inside out where sprinkler overspray hits the base. If the post is compromised, new hinges will just rip out of rotten steel in a year. We’d rather tell you the post needs repair and give you a written price for both jobs than swap hinges into a failing post and call it done. That’s the sort of call Dean Prescott makes on a first visit, because selling a repair that won’t hold is a guaranteed way to fail the 365-day test we put on our own work.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

We’ve already covered the line-item range above, but it’s worth being plain about what you’re buying. A hinge and roller replacement on a Linear-equipped swing gate includes removing the old hardware, inspecting and prepping the post face, installing the new hinge pair with anti-seize on the fasteners, installing the new roller assembly, re-hanging the gate, and then aligning the gate and track so the opener cycles without strain. It also includes a written guarantee on the repair, good for 365 days, with a free return visit if the repair fails inside that window.

The biggest variable in the price is gate weight. A light aluminum tube gate we can handle with two techs and a floor jack. A heavy ornamental steel gate with a wood inlay might need a lift and extra shoring, and that’s where labor moves toward the higher end of the range. What doesn’t change is that the price is in writing before the first bolt comes out, and nobody adds a ‘surprise’ line item after disassembly.

DIY or Call Us?

If you want to understand the problem before spending a dollar, here’s what you can safely check yourself: disconnect the opener, push the gate by hand through its full travel, and feel for binding. Look at the roller while it’s moving. If the wheel isn’t turning, that’s a roller replacement. If the gate wobbles side to side near the top, that’s a hinge replacement. You can also spray the hinge pins with a light penetrant to see if the noise changes, though that’s a diagnostic step, not a fix.

What you shouldn’t do is attempt a hinge replacement on a heavy gate without the right support under it. Once the hinge bolts come out, the full weight of that gate has to be supported, and gates shift fast when they shift. A few hundred pounds of steel swinging free will hurt you or bend the opener arm, and it only takes one slipped jack stand. If the gate is over about 150 pounds, call a pro. That’s not a sales line; it’s the same advice we’d give a neighbor in Summerlin over the fence, and it’s the reason a written price and a real arrival window matter more than a lowball quote. Call us at (725) 777-5391 and we’ll talk through what the gate is doing, what it probably needs, and what it’ll cost before we ever touch a bolt.
