Mighty Mule Keypad & Intercom Repair: The Las Vegas Owner’s Guide

Most Mighty Mule keypad or intercom repairs in Las Vegas run between $185 and $410 installed, depending on whether we’re replacing the keypad, the intercom module, or the wiring between them. We stock Mighty Mule-compatible keypads and intercom boards on our trucks and can usually complete the swap same-day when we’re already in your part of the valley. The typical call starts the same way: the keypad works sometimes, the intercom crackles, or the gate stops responding to codes that worked fine last week. Owners usually discover the failure at the worst possible time, standing at the driveway in 110-degree heat, punching the same code for the fourth time while the gate sits still.

Which Mighty Mule Models This Applies To

This covers the keypad and intercom components on most Mighty Mule swing and slide gate openers sold in the last fifteen years, including the MM260, MM360, MM371, MM372, MM571, MM572, and the older FM series. The keypad itself is usually the MMKPS or the newer wireless MMKPW, while the intercom function typically runs through the Mighty Mule control board’s accessory terminals. Before you order anything, flip the keypad over and look for the model sticker. It’s small, often faded by the Las Vegas sun, but it tells us exactly which revision you have. There was a running change around 2016 where Mighty Mule switched the keypad connector from a four-pin to a six-pin harness, and buying the wrong one means a return trip and more downtime.

We install genuine Mighty Mule parts when the budget allows, but we also carry quality aftermarket equivalents that match or exceed the OEM spec, particularly for keypads. The aftermarket units we use are sealed against dust and rated for direct sun exposure, and in our experience, the outdoor-rated housings hold up better in a Las Vegas summer than the stock units do. We’ll show you both options and the price for each before you decide. Worth noting: Portcullis Gate Repair Las Vegas is an independent service provider. We’re not affiliated with Mighty Mule, but we service their equipment daily, along with LiftMaster, Ghost Controls, and DoorKing.

Signs Your Mighty Mule Keypad & Intercom Is Failing

  • Keypad works intermittently, usually in the morning. This is moisture intrusion or a cold solder joint on the keypad’s circuit board. In Las Vegas, the bigger culprit is usually heat cycles: the board expands and contracts daily, and eventually a trace cracks. The failure shows up when the temperature swings, not when it’s consistently hot.
  • You hear a beep but the gate doesn’t move. The keypad is likely fine. The signal isn’t reaching the control board, which points to the wiring harness or, more often, the relay on the keypad’s output side. We test this on-site in about five minutes.
  • Intercom audio is weak on one end or crackling. The intercom module’s speaker or microphone has failed, or the wire run has corroded at a splice. Las Vegas dust is fine enough to get past most seals, and it cakes on the speaker cone over time.
  • Keypad lights up but won’t accept any code. This usually means the keypad’s EEPROM lost its programming. It can often be reprogrammed, but if it resets again within a week, the memory chip is failing and the unit needs replacement.
  • Codes work from the remote but not the keypad. That isolates the problem to the keypad or its dedicated input on the control board. We verify which one it is before quoting you a part, and we don’t sell you a keypad if the board is the actual fault.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Here’s the honest pricing picture for Las Vegas, parts and labor included:

  • Keypad replacement (standard wired or wireless): $185 – $290. Includes programming all existing codes, testing at the gate, and sealing the mounting surface.
  • Intercom module replacement: $220 – $340. Includes matching the module to your control board revision and verifying audio both directions.
  • Keypad plus intercom replacement together: $310 – $410. Often makes sense on older FM-series openers where both components are original and failing together.
  • Wiring repair only (no parts): $85 – $140. Includes tracing the run, re-splicing, and re-sealing against moisture.

The range depends on which model you have, whether we’re running new wire, and whether your existing keypad bracket can be reused. You get the exact number in writing before we touch anything. Every repair carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise. If it fails inside a year, we come back and fix it at no charge. That’s not a verbal promise. It’s stamped on the invoice.

DIY or Call Us?

A homeowner can safely check a few things: confirm the keypad has power, replace the batteries in the wireless keypad, and look for obvious corrosion at the keypad’s connector. You can also try reprogramming your existing codes using your opener’s manual. None of that involves opening the main control board or handling line voltage.

What you shouldn’t do is open the control board enclosure and start probing. The board carries line voltage, and a wrong move can damage the board itself, which turns a $200 keypad swap into a $700 control board replacement. We’ve also seen DIY keypad replacements where the owner wired the wrong connector pin and cooked the board on first power-up. If the keypad beeps but the gate doesn’t respond, call us at (725) 777-5391. We’ll diagnose the actual problem on the first visit, not sell you parts you don’t need. Dean Prescott keeps a notebook in his truck for exactly this: he’ll sketch out your options and price ranges before he ever writes an invoice.
