If you have a DoorKing access control system that has stopped reading keypads, dropped its programming, or quit triggering the gate, we can usually get the replacement part installed the same day in Las Vegas. Most DoorKing access control board replacements and keypad swaps run $165 to $520 installed, depending on the model and what actually failed. You’ll know something is wrong when the keypad beeps but the gate doesn’t move, when codes that worked yesterday stop working, or when the system resets itself overnight.
The hard truth about DoorKing access control in Las Vegas is that the heat does real damage. We see circuit boards that have cooked inside their enclosures, keypad membranes that have dried out and cracked, and wire connections that have corroded from a combination of dust and monsoon humidity. Dean Prescott has seen enough of these failures across Summerlin, Henderson, and the northwest valley to know which parts are worth replacing and which ones mean a full board swap.
Which DoorKing Models This Applies To
DoorKing has made access control systems for decades, and the parts are not as interchangeable as most people assume. The main lines we service are the 1800 series telephone entry systems, the 1830 series, the 1500 series keypads, and the older 1812 and 1814 models. The 1833, 1834, and 1835 models use a different keypad ribbon connection than the 1812, so a keypad that fits one will not fit the other. That’s a compatibility gotcha that has burned a lot of DIY buyers.
If you want to identify your exact model, look for the silver data plate on the side or bottom of the main housing. It will have a model number like 1833-080 or 1812-162. The last three digits sometimes indicate the cabinet style and option package, so snap a photo of that plate before you call. On the OEM versus aftermarket question: DoorKing original boards are well built, but some quality aftermarket keypads from brands like Security Brands and Aiphone cross-reference to DoorKing models at a lower price. We’ll tell you honestly which one makes sense for your system and your budget.

Signs Your DoorKing Access Control Installation Is Failing
- Keypad accepts the code but the gate doesn’t open. This usually means the relay on the main control board has failed or the output to the gate operator has a broken wire. We test the relay first before condemning the board.
- Codes reset themselves every few days. DoorKing boards store programming on a memory chip with a backup battery. When that battery dies, which happens faster in Las Vegas heat, the board loses its memory and reverts to factory codes.
- Some keypad buttons work and others don’t. The membrane face on a DoorKing keypad wears unevenly. The numbers people use most often, like 1, 2, 3, and the star key, fail first. Once the membrane is compromised, dust and moisture get inside and make it worse.
- The call button rings but you can’t hear or speak through the intercom. This is often a failed microphone or speaker on the access control board, less commonly the wiring between the pedestal and the house.
- The screen or LEDs are dim, flickering, or dead. Power supply issues are the usual culprit. DoorKing systems run on 16 to 24 volts AC. A failing transformer, especially one that has been cooking in the sun for ten years, will cause erratic behavior before it dies completely.

We quote what we expect, and if we find anything that changes the scope, we stop and talk to you before touching another wire.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely check a few things yourself: confirm the breaker is on, look for obvious physical damage to the keypad face, and note whether the system makes any sound at all when you press buttons. Beyond that, DoorKing access control work involves low-voltage wiring, relay logic, and programming, and it is easy to make the problem worse by shorting a board or miswiring a relay. We have seen DIY repairs where a homeowner wired 120 volts into a 24-volt board and fried the entire system, turning a $200 repair into an $800 replacement.
If you are not sure which part failed, call us at (725) 777-5391. We will ask what the gate is doing and give you a real number before we schedule anything.
FAQs
Most DoorKing boards and keypads last 7 to 12 years in Las Vegas, but the keypad membrane usually wears out first, around year 5 to 7. Heat and direct sun shorten the lifespan, especially for units that face west or sit on unshaded pedestals. If your system is over 10 years old and the board has failed, a full replacement is usually smarter than a repair. Call (725) 777-5391 and we will give you a straight answer.
Sometimes yes. Blown relays, dead backup batteries, and damaged wire terminals can often be repaired on site. A burned circuit board from a power surge or a lightning strike is usually a replacement. We will open the enclosure, diagnose the actual problem, and show you the repair option versus the replacement option before charging you a dollar.
Most keypad and board replacements take 60 to 90 minutes from the time we arrive. A full system replacement with new wiring takes 2 to 4 hours depending on how much of the old wiring we can reuse. You will have a working gate the same day in almost every case.
We stock the most common DoorKing boards, keypads, relays, and power supplies on our trucks, covering the 1800, 1830, and 1500 series systems.
