We stock and install DoorKing gate motor replacements across Las Vegas, with most residential swing-gate motor swaps running $850 to $1,400 installed and slide-gate operators landing between $1,200 and $2,100. We carry the common DoorKing 9150 and 6002 series parts on our trucks, so a same-day replacement is usually possible when the gate motor is truly dead. Most Las Vegas owners discover the motor has failed when the gate groans through half a cycle, stops responding to the remote, or sits dead after a monsoon-season power surge.
Dean Prescott, our owner and lead technician, has been elbow-deep in DoorKing operators since before the 9150 series became the default builder-grade swing motor in Henderson and Summerlin. The failure pattern here in southern Nevada is remarkably consistent: the capacitor goes first, then the limit switch drifts, and eventually the motor windings give out after enough 110-degree afternoons. If you’re reading this from Las Vegas, North Las Vegas, or the Whitney area, the odds are good we’ve already replaced a DoorKing motor on a gate exactly like yours this month.
Which DoorKing Models This Applies To
The two DoorKing lines we see most often in Las Vegas are the 6002 series for swing gates and the 9150 series for slide gates. The 6002 is the white, pod-style operator you’ll find on probably 60 percent of residential swing gates in Summerlin and Mountain’s Edge; the 9150 is the slide-gate workhorse on slightly larger properties with a rolled or cantilever gate. Both were installed in huge numbers across the valley between 2005 and 2020, which means both are now hitting their replacement years all at once.
If you’re not sure which motor you have, grab a stepladder and look for the silver data plate inside the operator housing. The model number is printed there, and the serial number will tell us the production year if you read it to us over the phone. One compatibility gotcha with DoorKing specifically: a 6002 control board from 2012 will not talk to a 2020-era 6002 motor without a retrofit kit, so don’t buy a bare motor off a resale site and expect it to drop in. We match OEM DoorKing parts where the application calls for it, and offer quality aftermarket equivalents when they’re genuinely equivalent, not just cheaper. Portcullis Gate Repair Las Vegas is an independent service provider, not affiliated with DoorKing, and we stock both OEM and trusted aftermarket components for LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, and Ghost Controls systems as well.

Signs Your DoorKing Gate Motor Replacement Is Failing
- The gate opens halfway and reverses. This is almost always a failing limit switch inside the motor assembly. On DoorKing units, the plastic cam wears down until the operator no longer knows where the open and close positions are.
- The motor hums but nothing moves. That’s the classic dead capacitor. In Las Vegas heat, cheap capacitors can cook off in as little as four years. We typically replace the capacitor before condemning the motor, but a burned capacitor often means the motor windings pulled too much current on the way out.
- The gate moves slower than it did last year. DoorKing motors are sealed but not perfectly. Desert dust works its way past the seals, loads up the gearbox, and adds drag. By the time you notice a real slowdown, the motor has been overworking for months.
- The remote only works when you’re right next to the gate. That’s often a receiver issue, not the motor itself, but a failing motor can generate electrical noise that drowns out the remote signal. We rule out the motor before we touch the radio gear.
- A popping or grinding noise when the gate reverses. That grind is the gear reduction assembly inside the motor housing. Once the gears are smoked, replacement is the only fix that holds, and running it further just takes the new motor’s control board out with it.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
For a Las Vegas residential swing gate, a DoorKing 6002 motor replacement typically runs $850 to $1,400 parts and labor. Sliding gate motor swaps run higher, $1,200 to $2,100, because the motor assembly is larger and the rack-and-pinion alignment has to be reset. The price depends on whether we’re replacing just the motor and gearbox or whether the control board, harness, and capacitor are part of the job. Every estimate includes the same thing: a written price before we touch a bolt, the labor to pull the old motor and install the new one, and a full cycle test on both open and closed positions.
We give you the price before any work starts, not after the gate is in pieces. That’s part of the Kingswell Guarantee: written price, real arrival window, clean job site, and written guarantee on the repair. Our 365-Day Done Right Promise covers every DoorKing motor replacement we install, and if it fails inside that year, the return visit is free.
DIY or Call Us?
A DoorKing operator runs on 110-volt line power, and inside the housing there’s a capacitor that holds a charge even with the breaker off. If you’ve never worked on a charged capacitor or a live gate operator, that’s the single best reason to call us. The second best reason: we already have the motor, the gear puller, and three years of desert-dust experience that tells us which bolts are seized before we even put a socket on them.
What you can safely do: check the breaker, clear rocks and debris from the track or hinge path, and listen to whether the motor hums when the remote fires. If it hums, it’s likely the capacitor; if it’s silent, it may be the board or the motor. Or just call us at (725) 777-5391 and tell us what the gate is doing or not doing. Dean will give you a real number before we ever touch a bolt.
FAQs
Most DoorKing motors in Las Vegas last 8 to 12 years before the capacitor, gears, or windings fail, with direct-sun installations on the west side of a home typically dying two to three years sooner than shaded ones. We see 10 years as the realistic ceiling for a 6002 on a busy gate.
We can often replace the capacitor, limit switch, or gear assembly separately and save the motor itself, but when the windings are burned or the gear housing is cracked, a replacement is the only repair that will hold. We’ll test the motor before we quote you, and we won’t sell you a new one if the old one just needs a $40 part.
Most residential swing-gate motor replacements in Las Vegas take two to three hours from arrival to a fully tested gate, assuming the hinges and gate structure are in serviceable shape. Slide-gate replacements can run half a day when the rack and chain need alignment work.
Yes, we carry the common 6002 and 9150 motor assemblies, capacitors, and limit switch kits on our Las Vegas service trucks, which is how we can often do same-day replacements. If your model is less common, we can typically source it from our local supplier within one to two business days.
