If your Elite access control system has stopped reading keycards, won’t power the keypad, or keeps dropping offline, the problem usually comes down to one of three things: the control board, a failed power supply, or a worn-out reader. We stock Elite-compatible replacement parts on our trucks and install them across Las Vegas, Henderson, and Summerlin, typically same-day on repair calls. Most Elite access control installations run $390 – $890 parts and labor, depending on whether we’re swapping a single reader or rebuilding a multi-door controller. Here’s what you need to know before you spend a dollar.
Most owners discover the failure the same way: an employee calls to say their badge doesn’t work, or the gate just stays open. Sometimes the keypad beeps but never unlocks. Sometimes everything looks fine but the property manager’s phone stopped getting entry logs. In Las Vegas, we see heat-related failures more than anything else, and Elite equipment is generally solid but not invincible to a summer of 110-degree afternoons cooking a metal enclosure on the side of a building.
Which Elite Models This Applies To
Elite makes several lines of access control hardware: standalone keypads like the EliteKeypad series, telephone-entry systems, and full multi-door controllers including the Elite 2000 and Elite 4000 series. We service all of them. The trick with Elite is matching the replacement part to your exact board revision, because Elite has changed wiring positions and connector layouts between production years even within the same model line.
Here’s the gotcha we run into constantly in Las Vegas: a customer buys a used Elite 2000 board online, it physically fits in the enclosure, but the relay outputs don’t match their existing wiring harness. That’s an hour of troubleshooting we’d rather you avoid. If you’re shopping for the part yourself, check the model number and revision letter printed on the board, not just the model name on the cover. For readers, match the Wiegand protocol and voltage to your controller. We stock OEM Elite parts plus quality aftermarket equivalents that we’ve tested in the field, and we’ll tell you honestly which one makes sense for your system. We’re an independent service provider, not affiliated with Elite, which means we recommend the part that fits your budget and your existing wiring, not whatever a manufacturer’s warranty pushes.

Signs Your Elite Access Control Installation Is Failing
- Keypad lights up but won’t accept any codes. The keypad itself usually works; the controller’s memory chip has likely failed or lost its programming. On Elite units, this is often heat-related, and we see it most after a long Las Vegas summer.
- Cards work on one door but not another. This points to a failing relay on a specific board output. Each door has its own relay channel, and when one relay sticks, only that entry point acts up. The fix is usually a relay board replacement, not a whole new system.
- The system works but no longer logs entries. The communication module or serial connection has dropped. On older Elite controllers, the RS-485 chip burns out, and you lose reporting even though doors still open. That chip is replaceable, and we carry it.
- You hear a humming or buzzing from the enclosure. That’s the power supply transformer struggling under load or starting to fail. Left alone, it takes the control board with it. In our Las Vegas service area, we replace power supplies proactively when they start buzzing, because the next stop is a dead system.
- Gate opens for no apparent reason in the middle of the night. We’ve diagnosed this as a failing reader sending phantom Wiegand signals, or a wiring fault from rodent damage inside the conduit. Rats and desert pack rats love gate enclosures, and the damage mimics a failing part. Either way, it’s a diagnosis we can make on the first visit.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
Here’s the pricing picture for Las Vegas, based on what we’ve installed across the valley:
| Service | Typical Installed Price |
|---|---|
| Single Elite keypad or reader replacement | $390 – $590 |
| Elite control board replacement (single door) | $520 – $780 |
| Multi-door Elite 4000 controller rebuild | $780 – $1,450 |
| Power supply replacement | $260 – $420 |
| Full diagnostic, no repair needed | $95 – $150 |
That price includes the part, installation, programming, and testing of every entrance you have connected. You’ll see the total in writing before we touch a single bolt, because that’s how we work. The range depends on whether we need a simple swap or whether the failure also damaged wiring or secondary components like the power supply. Every repair comes with our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if it fails within the warranty period, we return and fix it at no charge. Written on the invoice, every time.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely check a few things yourself: confirm the breaker hasn’t tripped, verify the enclosure isn’t full of ants or blown sand, and see if any wiring is visibly chewed or loose. If the door still won’t respond, stop there. Access control failures are rarely the one thing you guessed, and swapping a board on a guess gets expensive fast.
What goes wrong with DIY is usually the wiring. Elite controllers run low-voltage DC, but the gate operator they trigger runs on 120V or 240V AC. Mix the two up inside the enclosure and you can destroy the new part, the operator, or both, and a 120V arc is no joke. We’re the ones called after that happens, and the repair always costs more than if we’d done the first visit. As Dean Prescott puts it: “Tell me what the gate is doing – or not doing – and I’ll give you a real number before I touch a single bolt.” Call us at (725) 777-5391 and we’ll get it diagnosed same-day.
FAQs
In the Las Vegas climate, we see most Elite boards lasting 7 to 10 years before heat degradation causes failures; power supplies tend to go first, often at the 5 to 6 year mark. Installing in a shaded enclosure with a vent fan extends that significantly. Call us at (725) 777-5391 if you’re wondering whether to repair or replace.
Yes, in many cases we can replace individual components like relays, memory chips, and RS-485 transceivers on Elite boards; however, if the board has multiple failed circuits or physical burn damage, replacement is the cheaper and more reliable option. We’ll quote both repair and replacement prices before you decide. Call (725) 777-5391 for an honest assessment.
Most single-door Elite part replacements take 90 minutes to 2 hours from the time our technician arrives. A multi-door controller rebuild with new readers and power supply runs half a day. We give you a real arrival window when you book, and we stick to it.
We stock the most common Elite boards, readers, power supplies, and relays on our service vehicles, which lets us complete most Las Vegas repairs on the first visit. We also keep parts for LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, and Ghost Controls systems, since many properties run mixed brands. If we don’t have your exact revision on the truck, we can usually source it within one business day.
