Get your free estimateLinear Access Control Installation: The Las Vegas Owner’s Guide
Linear access control installation in Las Vegas typically runs $295 to $875 for a complete keypad or card reader replacement, parts included and the price in writing before the first bolt comes off. Most jobs take 60 to 90 minutes once our tech is on-site, and we stock Linear-compatible keypads, receivers, and controllers on our trucks across the Las Vegas Valley. The way owners discover a failed access control installation is rarely dramatic: the gate stops answering a code that worked last week, a card reader stops reading on the first swipe, or the access panel goes dark after a desert monsoon. What begins as an annoyance at the driveway usually turns out to be a failing keypad membrane, a corroded reader board, or a power supply that has been cooking in a metal cabinet at 110 degrees for six summers running.
Which Linear Models This Applies To
We install and wire access control for the full Linear family: the classic AE-500 and AE-2000 telephone entry systems, the AK-11 and AK-21 keypads, the AM3 and AME3 multi-button stations, and the AP-5 and AP-8 outdoor pedestal keypads. Linear’s model number is almost always on a silver label inside the unit, tucked behind the faceplate, or printed on the circuit board itself. Write it down before you call; it tells us which wiring topology we are dealing with. The single biggest compatibility gotcha with Linear is the voltage difference between the older 24-volt systems and the newer 12-volt DC keypads: a tech who does not check the existing transformer will burn out a brand-new keypad inside a week. As for OEM versus aftermarket: genuine Linear parts carry the brand’s liability and fitment guarantees, which matter on commercial properties in Las Vegas where a code compliance inspector may check. Aftermarket equivalents from Viking or LiftMaster lines can sometimes do the job, but they tend to run a different wire count, and the extra adapters are where errant voltage problems start. We stay with genuine Linear parts unless a customer asks us to quote an alternative and understands the wiring differences.

Signs Your Linear Access Control Installation Is Failing
- The keypad beeps but the gate does not move. The keypad’s relay is closing but the operator is not receiving the signal. Usually the problem is in the control board, not the keypad; replacing the keypad would waste your money and fix nothing.
- Every code works on the third or fourth try. The sealed membrane contacts are worn or carbonized on the most-used digits. We see this constantly on the 4 and 7 keys, which get the heaviest thumb wear in Las Vegas heat.
- The card reader reads some cards and not others. This is often a failing reader coil or a dirty card, but sometimes a loose data line at the terminal block. Spraying contact cleaner into a live reader is how DIY repairs end in a service call.
- The unit goes dark, powers back, then goes dark again. That is a failing power supply transformer, and the hot-cold cycling inside a metal enclosure in a Las Vegas garage accelerates it. A new keypad will not fix a bad transformer.
- You hear a faint hum from inside the box. A humming transformer is a transformer on its way out. When we hear this, the customer usually reports the gate working “sometimes” and losing its codes randomly.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
For a fresh Linear keypad installation in Las Vegas, expect $295 to $475 for the most common AK-11 or AK-21 replacements, which includes the keypad itself, the mounting hardware, and the labor to wire it in and program your codes. A full telephone entry system like the AE-500 or AE-2000 runs $550 to $875 installed, with the higher end covering units that have a built-in directory and call-forwarding. The range exists for one reason: what is behind the wall dictates how much labor the job takes. If the existing wire is intact and the transformer is healthy, the job is quick. If we are re-pulling wire, replacing a burned transformer, or adding a surge suppressor because lightning near the Spring Mountains keeps killing your boards, the labor moves upward. Every quote is written before we start, and the Kingswell Guarantee lands on the invoice with the same pen. The work is covered for 365 days under the Done Right Promise, and if a Linear part fails inside that year, the return visit is free.
DIY or Call Us?
There are two things you can safely check yourself: the breaker (flip it off and back on) and the physical condition of the keypad face (if it is cracked or the buttons are sunken, that is the problem). Beyond that, we recommend against opening the access control housing. Linear systems run low voltage, so the risk is less about shock and more about the control board itself: one crossed hot wire, one shorted terminal, and you have just turned a $350 keypad swap into a $900 control board replacement. The inside of an access control cabinet is tight, the terminal blocks are labeled in abbreviations that shift between Linear generations, and the wiring colors are almost never what a YouTube video shows. If the gate does not answer the keypad, call us at (725) 777-5391 and tell us what the gate is doing or not doing. Dean Prescott and our techs will give you a real number before anyone touches a single bolt.
FAQs
A Linear keypad in Las Vegas typically lasts 5 to 8 years, with the rubber membrane and the relay being the first parts to wear. Units mounted in direct afternoon sun fail faster; keypads tucked under shade or in a wall recess add a year or two. We have replaced keypads that looked new outside but had a melted relay inside from a harsh July.
Yes, some failures are repairable. A stuck button, a corroded terminal, or a popped relay can sometimes be replaced at the board level for under $180 in Las Vegas, but a failed membrane, a water-invaded housing, or a cracked circuit board generally means replacement is the better spend. We will tell you which one you have before you commit to either path.
Most keypad and card reader swaps are done within 60 to 90 minutes of our tech arriving on-site. Telephone entry systems with a directory and call-forwarding run closer to two hours on account of the extra wiring and phone-line testing. Either way, the price is in writing before we open the enclosure.
We stock Linear AK-series keypads, AP-series pedestals, and common receiver boards on our trucks across the Las Vegas Valley, so most residential calls are a same-visit fix. Rare parts like a full AE-2000 directory module or a 24-volt transformer for an old commercial system may need a day to source. Call (725) 777-5391 and we will tell you before we roll.
If your Linear access control is down, call us at (725) 777-5391 for a free estimate. We will tell you what is failing, what it costs to fix it properly, and put the price in writing before any work starts.
