We’re an independent Linear service provider in Las Vegas, and most Linear electric gate repairs take us one to three hours on site, with many jobs done in a single visit. Linear gate operators are workhorses in this valley – they hold up well against dust and heat, but when they fail, it’s usually a control board or capacitor problem, not something cheap and quick. You’ll get a written price before we touch a single bolt, and the repair carries a 365-day guarantee. If you own a Linear gate operator in Las Vegas and it’s not opening, not closing, or making a noise it shouldn’t, call us at (725) 777-5391 and tell us what you’re seeing. This page is for homeowners tired of gate companies that guess, overcharge, or vanish.
How Linear Products Fail – and How We Fix Them
Linear has been building gate operators for decades, and in Las Vegas we see some failure patterns over and over. Here are the five most common on the electric gate side, what causes them, and what we actually do about it:
- Linear’s older “LS” and “LD” slide-gate series lose the motor start capacitor. The capacitor is the can that gives the motor its first hard kick to get a heavy gate moving. In the Vegas summer, capacitors stretch out faster than anywhere else, and the gate just hums without moving. We bring the right microfarad capacitor with us and test the old one first – a $60 diagnosis that saves you from buying a whole motor.
- The Linear “APeX” and early “M” series control boards burn out relay contacts when a gate gets heavy or a wheel goes flat. A dragging gate makes the motor pull more current than the board’s relays were mean to switch for years on end. We check the gate’s rolling resistance before we replace a board – because if the gate is dragging, a new board will burn out too. That’s the difference between a repair and a repeat repair.
- Linear’s wireless receiver fails slowly, not all at once. One day the remote works from 40 feet away, then 20, then you’re standing on the driveway with your arm out the window. The receiver antenna is built into the opener itself on many Linear models. We test range with a known-good transmitter before replacing anything, which tells us if it’s the remote, the receiver, or something else entirely.
- The APeX photo-eye and edge sensor input circuits read false “obstruction” signals, which is why the gate stops and reverses for no reason. In Las Vegas, this often happens when the edge sensor wire gets nicked by a rock or crushed under a wheel. Linear operators are fussier than most about this. We run a continuity test on the loop, and if there’s a short we pull new wire over the open span. It’s a straightforward but time-consuming fix a lot of gate techs skip.
- Keypads on Linear systems fail from UV and dust, and the keypad is almost never the problem. When someone’s code stops working, it’s usually the keypad’s radio transmitter, not the operator itself. And if the keypad’s plastisol coating is cracked from the sun, moisture gets in and kills the board. We can swap in a compatible Linear keypad and program it to your existing receiver, or troubleshoot the receiver if that’s where the failure actually lives.

Our Linear Electric Gate Repair Process
Here’s how a Linear repair works at Portcullis Gate Repair Las Vegas, from the call to the cleanup:
- 1
You call and tell us what the gate is doing – or not doing. We listen to the symptoms and give you a rough idea of what it usually is before anyone gets in the truck.
- 2
We arrive in the window we gave you. Background-checked, uniformed, and we know which Linear model is on the property before we ring the bell.
- 3
We diagnose and sketch out the repair in front of you. Dean Prescott carries a notepad in his truck for exactly this. You see the options and the price before anything gets taken apart.
- 4
We show the written price, and only start work after you approve it. No after-the-fact surprises. If it’s an OEM Linear part versus quality aftermarket, we explain the difference – including what it means for any remaining manufacturer warranty.
- 5
We repair, test, and cycle the gate at least a dozen times. We test the safety edges, the photo eyes, the remote, the keypad, and the manual release. If it doesn’t pass every test, we’re not done.
- 6
We clean up, leave the area better than we found it, and hand you the written Kingswell Guarantee. Every repair is covered for 365 days, on the invoice, with a free return visit if the repair fails inside that period.

AfterWhat Linear Electric Gate Repair Costs in Las Vegas
Most Linear electric gate repairs in Las Vegas fall between $125 and $1,100, depending on what actually failed. A capacitor replacement usually runs $125 to $225 parts and labor. A new Linear control board, which is the most expensive single component on the operator, typically runs $375 to $850 installed depending on the model. A receiver or remote programming issue is often $95 to $175 if the board just needs reprogramming, and a full keypad swap usually runs $145 to $250. The high end of the range is the board, and the low end is a sensor alignment or a bad remote. The book rate is the book rate, but what really moves the price in Las Vegas is whether the gate has been dragging and stressing components for years – that’s where a cheap motor failure becomes a board and motor failure. We’ll give you a written quote before any work starts, and the quote is the price. Call (725) 777-5391 for a free estimate on your Linear gate.
Why Las Vegas Homeowners Call Portcullis Gate Repair Las Vegas for Linear Work
We’re a Kingswell company, and the Kingswell Guarantee is the same at every location: written price, real arrival window, clean job site, written guarantee. Around here, that means a lot. Las Vegas is full of gate companies that quote one number on the phone and a different one at the door. We don’t. And because we carry factory and quality aftermarket parts for Linear plus LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, Ghost Controls, and DoorKing on our trucks, we don’t need to make something up just to fill a part. Dean Prescott grew up working on electromechanical systems before he was old enough to drive, trained in welding and controls at Pasadena City College, and has put in real hours across the Las Vegas Valley from Summerlin to commercial properties near the Strip. Tell me what the gate is doing – or not doing – and I’ll give you a real number before I touch a single bolt. Our techs know Linear operators inside and out, and the repair is backed by the 365-Day Done Right Promise in writing.
FAQs
No, not automatically. Linear’s warranty covers manufacturing defects, and an independent repair does not void it unless non-certified parts are used. We’re an independent Linear service provider, not an authorized dealer, so we’ll always tell you when an OEM part matters for your warranty and when a quality aftermarket part will work just as well and cost less. Call (725) 777-5391 and we’ll walk through the specifics for your model.
Most common Linear parts – capacitors, receivers, keypads, and many control boards – are available through local supply houses or our own stock. Specialty boards from older Linear “LD” series may take a day or two to source. We’ll tell you exactly what’s available and when the repair can be done before you commit to anything.
If the control board, capacitor, or a sensor is the problem, repair almost always makes financial sense – usually $125 to $450 for the repair versus $1,200 to $2,500 for a full operator replacement. Replacement only makes sense if the motor itself has failed, the gate is severely misaligned, or you want to upgrade to a newer Linear model with additional safety features. We’ll give you both numbers in writing and let you choose without any pressure.
We work across the Las Vegas Valley and can usually schedule a service call within 24 to 48 hours. For gates stuck open or closed, we do offer same-day emergency visits when our schedule allows – especially for security issues. Call (725) 777-5391 and a live person will give you an honest arrival time, not a vague “sometime this week.”
Every repair is covered by the Kingswell Guarantee: 365 days, written on your invoice. If the repair fails inside that period, we come back and make it right at no charge. No questions, no second invoice, no phone tag. That’s the Kingswell Way – say the price before the work, show up in the window we gave, leave the place cleaner than we found it, put the guarantee in writing, come back if it fails.
If your Linear gate opener is giving you trouble in Las Vegas, don’t wait until it’s stuck halfway open. Call Portcullis Gate Repair Las Vegas at (725) 777-5391 for a free estimate and a written price before any work starts. We answer live, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
