Linear Welding & Fabrication: The Las Vegas Owner’s Guide

We stock and install Linear-compatible welded gate components across Las Vegas, with most fabrication repairs running $240 – $680 installed depending on the part and the gate’s size. Same-day service is available, and we carry the common failure points on the truck. Most owners find us after a gate starts sagging, dragging, or binding, and they notice a cracked weld on the hinge plate, the gate frame, or the operator mounting bracket.

Which Linear Models This Applies To

Linear operators, especially the LDO series swing arms and the SL slide-gate line, share a common weakness: the mounting hardware and brackets take the full force of the gate’s movement every single cycle. The welded steel components around these operators include the operator mounting plate, the gate hinge posts, the idler pulley brackets on slide gates, and the weld-on tabs that anchor the linear actuator. Linear’s residential lineup (LDO50, LDO100, LDS series) uses bolt-on and weld-on configurations that differ from Apollo or DoorKing systems, so the fabrication has to match the specific operator geometry.

Most people identify their Linear gate by the rectangular, gray plastic control box and the “Linear” name stamped on the cover. The model number sits on a silver tag inside the box or on the motor housing. Before we quote a welding job, we ask for that model number plus the gate’s weight and its leaf length. You’d be surprised how often a gate was welded for the wrong operator geometry, and the first replacement weld failed within a year because the geometry was never right to begin with.

Signs Your Linear Welding & Fabrication Is Failing

  • The gate sags at the free end. This is usually a fatigued weld at the bottom hinge or a cracked hinge plate. The gate can still operate, but the operator is now dragging a heavier, misaligned load, which shortens the motor’s life considerably.
  • You hear a metal-on-metal creak or grinding. This often means a weld has cracked and the two faces are now rubbing against each other. If you hear this, don’t keep cycling the gate; every pass make the crack worse and the repair bigger.
  • The gate jerks or stutters in one spot during travel. A broken weld on a roller bracket or guide track will make the gate catch at the same spot each time. The operator motor compensates, but the repeated strain burns out the capacitors faster. We see this pattern a lot on slide gates throughout Henderson and Summerlin.
  • You can see daylight through a joint that used to be solid. That’s a failed weld, plain as daylight. In the desert, the dry heat and temperature swings cause the steel to expand and contract daily, and over years, that thermal cycling cracks welds that were barely adequate to begin with.
  • The operator bracket has pulled away from the post or column. This is the failure we fix most frequently on Linear systems. The motor keeps trying to move the gate, but the anchor points have loosened or the welds have snapped, and the whole assembly rocks under load. This is a repair, not a “wait and see” situation, because the motor is beating itself up with every cycle.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Installed pricing for Linear welding and fabrication work in Las Vegas typically falls into these ranges:

  • Weld-on operator bracket (labor and steel): $240 – $380
  • Hinge post or hinge plate repair, per hinge: $180 – $320
  • Slide gate roller bracket or guide track repair: $260 – $520
  • Full gate frame re-weld with reinforcement gussets: $480 – $680

The spread depends on the gate’s weight, whether we need to remove and re-hang the leaf, and how much of the existing weld is recoverable. Every job gets a written price before we start, and that price includes the steel, the welding consumables, the grinding and cleanup, and the labor to dial the gate back in so it travels square. We don’t add a “shop supplies” fee or bump the number after the gate is apart. The Kingswell Guarantee on welding work is the same as any other repair at Portcullis: 365 days, written on the invoice, with a free return visit if the weld fails inside that year.

DIY or Call Us?

You can safely inspect the welds on your own: look for cracked paint, rust streaks running down from a joint, or any gap where two pieces of steel used to meet. You can also check whether the gate post is plumb with a simple level. What you shouldn’t do is attempt the weld yourself, and not because we want to keep the work. A gate leaf that weighs 400 or 600 pounds carries enormous stored energy, and a weld that fails while someone is standing underneath or driving through is a serious injury waiting to happen. Welding on a live gate system also means grinding and welding near operator wiring, capacitors, and control boards, and one misplaced ground clamp can fry a $400 board. This is the one part of gate repair where the phrase “trained professional” actually means something. If you’re in Las Vegas and your Linear gate’s steel is cracked, call us at (725) 777-5391 and Dean Prescott will give you a straight answer on what needs to be welded and what it costs.
